Thanks David. I have been under the misconception that 单词 referred to a Chinese word for the last 10 years. I now understand the puzzled looks that I have got when I tried to use it.

Started to listen to the lesson and I have an immediate question please.  I heard 单词 meaning a word.  But I was told recently apparently very authoritively by a very well educated mainland Chinese person that 单词 is NOT used to mean a word in Mandarin only a word in a foreign language eg English.  I was told you should use 词语 or 组词 for Mandarin.  Help please.

While in China some years ago, I found some of the 长城 very acceptable complement to a meal - and reasonably priced too.

Mark, why should Jewish people have special tastes in wine? Seems very odd to me being half Jewish, with a French ex wife (therefore very accustomed to drinking wine)!

It seems these days that many people are obsessed by recording each moment of their lives on camera and then sending/displaying the pictures to all and sundry.

It seems to me to be to be totally self centred: "Look at me, look at me" they seem to be saying.

Happy Birthday

In England it is very definitely pronunciation.

Are you saying you also spell the word pronunciation as pronounciation?

I checked with a Chinese teacher from Taiwan. She says it should be 亁女兒

Again, I don't understand your post. I can almost not hear the background music as it is so faint. What system are you using to listen to this lesson?

Actually, I do agree that Chinesepod is obsessed with background music, and I have complained in the past. But here they surely have made it virtually inconspicuous.

By the way the lesson information says that this lesson is with Shannell and David not Shannell and Vera.
