July 19, 2014 at 9:02 AMI really liked this QingWen. I found it very helpful and at a good level of detail so that there was some 'meat' in it (Some qingwens have been too superficial in my book).
Question:Cannot one often omit the 在, when dealing with time phrases? For example for 我在八点起床, cannot we also just say 我八点起床?
Second question: 我在一年里要看两次牙医 is translated as 'I go to see a dentist twice a year'. Doesn't the 要 give a sense of 'must'?
Third question: Can I replace 在 with 从 in the following for example? 游泳池在晚上十点到次日上午八点间不开放 ie is this correct 游泳池从晚上十点到次日上午八点间不开放?

July 19, 2014 at 7:27 AMWell, I can hardly pick out a single word, so the audio is unusable for me. Can you really handle it? I admit that I do have some hearing loss at high frequency but my language level is above this so should be able to cope.

July 21, 2014 at 5:33 AM就 in this context seems to be like the English word 'just', which sometimes can have a similar meaning in context to 'only'。 In the latest lesson http://chinesepod.com/lessons/the-marks-are-out Jenny at about 7:40 says something like 在中文这个专业就是一个名字; she is comparing it withe the American word 'major' which can be used as a verb or as a noun.
