Changye

In Tokyo the Valentine's Day Campaign has been in full swing for two weeks! On my way home the department store in the Ebisu Train Station is almost impassable as the young ladies are buying chocolates from the stands set up in the hallway. Since young Tokyo women don't seem to be very interested in having boyfriends, are they buying these sweets for their adorable pampered puppies?

One of my first trips to Shanghai with my wife about 8 years ago we decided to go to the Arboretum.

At that time the garden was at the end of the subway line (#1 or #2 I forget) and a large stadium was under construction. The only "taxis" were two old guys on three wheel motorcycles.

In my worst chinese I asked them to take us to the Shanghai Garden Park. Ok they said. My wife got on the first one and off he went!

My guy wanting to pee first. Needless to say my wife was angry and passionate when I finally showed up. First a hug then a "DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN !"

Happy New Year to all!

I hope my brain improves and I retain a bit more this year. (And the same wish to others who forget more than they would like as well)

This lesson has lots of wonderful 4 character expressions. I think this was mentioned before  but I forget. And I have no listend to the lesson yet as I am at work and can only peak at the test.

Anybody remember ? As I live in Japan they had a series on these in Japanesepod101 called"Yojijukugo"

The Kanji (Hanzi) characters are 四字熟語  I guess in chinese this would be (sìzìshúyǔ) Does this exist in chinese language as well?

Happy New Year CPod, In Japan it has gotten a bit quiet this time of the day for me since no one is working in Taiwan.

I hope you have a chance to sleep some. I know when I lived in Taiwan, even if I wished to sleep the fireworks all night long made it tough.

Chanelle7 We live in Tokyo and my wife just bought two of the cats; one with the left up and one with the right paw up today at the flea market in Ginza. Thanks for bringing to attention the wiki article.

I saw Hachiko today as my wife and I did some errands in Tokyo. It is sad but I think most of the people who come out and wander about Shibuya Station have no interest in the story or statue.

Changye, you may be in a good postion to comment. Which country do you think the younger people (<40) have more interest in their history of the last 100 years? China or Japan?

Changye Nice point about left versus right. My wife is left handed so she will like this. Can you say anything about left handed Chinese or Japanese Calligraphy? Is this considered bad or wrong? In one sense writing right to left and top to bottom would favor left handed people. As to the characters themselves I guess lefties just learn to adapt as they do with western cursive.
