I remember when I was little and living in Malaysia, and when the country was making the transition to standardize to metric measurements, 一斤was approximately equivalent to 600 grams. I wonder if this 斤is the same as the Chinese 斤. Have they just made it half a kilo for ease of conversion? It was also called a kati and each kati had 16 taels. In Chinese, it was 16量(am I using the right character for liang?).
