August 1, 2009 at 11:58 AMI have been using a few food measure words since a long time ago, but they are not the ones I see on this lesson, so I would just like to check the correctness/acceptability of them:
一粒苹果 or any kind of small round fruit
一梳香蕉 a comb of bananas
一件 for wrapped or pouchy things like stuffed beancurd, springrolls, etc.

I too loved the expression 上有老下有小。 Simple and easy to digest, remember and reuse.

July 27, 2009 at 12:51 AMDo people ever use 一把嘴？ I seem to recall it being used a lot among Cantonese speakers, especially when it has negative connotations, like when someone is a blabbermouth. 他那把嘴从早到晚不停的。

August 4, 2009 at 1:10 AMGuess what? 我老公和我也刚刚买了一间房子 (oops! am I using one of those Cantonesey measure words that sound weird in Mandarin again?). Anyway, this is a bigger house than the apartment we currently live in and has a garden and a backyard. We have just paid the initial fee for the option to purchase....I'm really excited but that means we will probably be 房奴 for the rest of our lives.
