April 29, 2011 at 3:13 AMI took an international business course several years ago and was told that it is seen as impolite in Chinese culture for a man to put someone's business card in their wallet. Is this correct? If so, does anyone know the proper etiquette for receiving business cards in China?

April 27, 2011 at 5:45 AMif you're looking for a quick answer what I said is: it appeared in the dialogue that Ms. Chen was unclear whether she had Mr. Wang's phone number and that's why she mentioned "小王的（电话号码）" at the beginning of the sentence. If she'd known for sure that she had his number, she might have responded with just "有啊“。nevertheless, you could respond to the question either way, both are correct.

March 15, 2011 at 8:16 PM那对你来说，大部分的中国人用什么方式去找工作？参加招聘会，直接到他们公司去应聘，还是在招聘网站查就业机会？
我这样问因为也许跟大部分美国人找工作的习惯有差。对我来说，现在的美国人大部分都习惯去招聘网站查，应聘工作。美国人这么做不仅是因为在网上应聘工作很方便，可以随时完成网上的应聘材料，而也是因为美国的好多公司要求他们的应聘者通过网上的应聘材料来申请工作。如果应聘者不填出网上的应聘表格，那他们公司就不愿意去考虑雇佣他。说实话，我不太喜欢在网上应聘工作，因为实在太过没有人情味的。你把网上的应聘材料完成后，就得花那么长的时间等待公司的联络。不管你多少次打电话给他们公司问一问你的应聘情况怎么样，他们就会避免直接地回答你的问题说“我们公司还在考虑有合适的人选的时间了。”不能查询出你的应聘情况到底怎么样。
不过，不是每个公司会这样要求他们的应聘者填出网上的应聘材料。有的公司，比如博物馆，饭馆，购物商店等，欢迎应聘者亲自应聘工作。
哦，对了。我差点儿就忘了。美国也有职业介绍所会帮帮人家找工作。中国也有把。

March 15, 2011 at 5:12 PMyeah, no problem. i myself had a little trouble making out what they were saying in some parts of the advertisement. but that's the thing with a country or countries (if you consider taiwan and china independent from each other) that have so many different regional dialects and accents. it's hard to make out every single word they're trying to say.

However ”干“ i want to say is more similar in usage to “做”. for example, you could say, 你这个周末要干什么？ which roughly translated means "what are your plans for this weekend?" Here you could use "做“ in place of "干” and i believe that it has the same meaning. However, in some situations, “干” can also carry a negative meaning. for example in the following expressions, "你干嘛你？“ (What do you think you're doing?") or “你在干什么？” （what are you doing?)
If you wanted to transfer money from one account into another account like in the dialogue or maybe wanted to apply for a passport or visa, you would want to use the verb "办“ as this character accurately conveys the action of "doing something which involves going through a process." By the way, the words for applying for a visa and passport are "办签证" or "办护照" respectively.
