Hi changye,

I too would prefer the "碰到了", perhaps because I want to know if the "了" is there before I get to the end of a long sentence. In conversation I can see that happening as one might say " 碰到了" while thinking of exactly what to say next.

Sorry to make such a mundane comment here, but...in the expansion, the following 2 sentences use 了in different places:

我最近碰到了一件麻烦事儿。

昨天在路上碰到我大学同学了。

Is this arbitrary?  Both have time words (最近 and 昨天)that clearly indicate that the action occurred in the past.

In the exercises, last section, one of the questions did not seem to have a correct choice:

  我不想_____。

走 was not given as a choice.

The "correct" answer was 国家。

Thanks Vera,

While working in China last year my wife and I discovered that voice mail was rare, and that a text message was the most effective way to get a response. When we are in the US we almost never send texts!

This sounds like an answering machine message:

我现在有事不在，一会儿再跟你联系。

or could it mean something like:

I am not at my office right now, but I will call you back soon.

 兔子跟乌龟说:我真服了你了，800米居然跑了10分钟。

but we know how that turned out.
