为什么
perhaps it sounds like Mo when it is used independently of such fixed expressions - but I'm just guessing!
I do know that 什么 which sounds like Shen Me in Mandarin
but sounds like San Mo when spoken in Cantonese.

The boers trekked (drew their wagons) in search of suitable land for colonisation.

These words aren't a problem for me, but maybe they are for others.
