Posted on: Actually
January 23, 2011 at 2:02 PMThe podcast says 其实 is always an adverb. But it seems to me it is often used like a conjunction, like 但是. In fact it seems to me "actually" kind of means "but" or "however". But I'm not sure about the definition of a conjunction. I'm thinking of an online example I found:
他看起来很壮,其实身体不好。
Is this the same as:
他看起来很壮,但是身体不好。

January 23, 2011 at 1:14 PMI just looked for examples online and you are right. All the examples for 婚礼 refer to the wedding and all the examples for 婚姻 refer to the union.

January 23, 2011 at 1:01 PMInteresting. I hadn't heard 婚姻 before. What is the difference between it and 婚礼?

January 23, 2011 at 12:55 PMIn the podcast a question is answered with 不是的. Can we use this to answer "no" to any question in the same way as 是的 is used to answer "yes". Also, do we need the 的?

January 21, 2011 at 8:37 AMIn the dialogue the measure word used with shíjiān is ge.
Could duàn (段) be used here instead?
