May 19, 2010 at 7:52 AMUnless it has changed in the last few years, China has very few decent coffee shops. Starbucks is awful, and expensive. But at least you can buy nescafe in the supermarkets.

May 10, 2010 at 6:49 AMJohn - OK! Future aspects or modals, whatever. Afterall, as your article points out, English does not have a future tense either, just aspect markers like "will". I actually wanted to avoid the "tense" thing because I know enough to realise that it's not simple.
However the multiple uses of 要 and 会 etc do confuse me a bit. I imagine, but don't really know, that words like 打算, and 准备 could be used to indicate future intentions.
I really do like these QW's where the issues are clarified with the multiple examples!

May 10, 2010 at 6:20 AMPretty sure it's because of the bird. The fruit is actually a chinese gooseberry, I believe, not native to New Zealand. Just a marketing ploy, like a previous discussion on "Hawaiian Nuts".

May 8, 2010 at 3:52 AM要 sometimes seems to be used for future tense though. - 对不对?
Could we have a 请问 sometime on the ways Chinese express constructions that would correspond to the English future tense, please?

May 4, 2010 at 1:27 PMToday I got the Media lesson on my dashboard, but I have never subscribed to it. Everything is working for me though - but I will never be able to make use of the Media lessons - plateauing out in intermediate, I think.

Posted on: Buying Sandals
July 7, 2010 at 6:12 AMtal_'s pic shows what Australian (and Brits?) call sandals.
However I disagree with go_manly that "thongs" (footwear) are the same as sandals. Thongs don't have the strap around the ankles; in fact they don't have any ankle support.
Here is a pic of Aussie (footwear) "thongs".
I think Kiwis call them "jandals".
