ChinesePod Meetup in NYC!

Hello all my lovely C-Poddies!

你好，我情爱的C-Poddies!

The cosmopolitan city that never sleeps encompasses all types- young, urban professionals, struggling artists, bewildered tourists thumbing through their guidebooks and a slew of others- a wash of color and culture all blended smoothly together in one of the world’s largest melting pots.

Of course in a city so rich with the vibrancy of variation and individuality, you’re bound to find the voracious learners; those who take great pleasure in the pursuit of knowledge. Read more to hear about the great time we had together!

I was recently fortunate enough to meet some of these determined individuals.

Last night in midtown Manhattan we held our first official ChinesePod meet-up! I gathered with a wonderfully enthusiastic group of Chinese learners; likeminded individuals who simply want to practice their language skills and make a few new friends who share the same zeal and passion for language as they do.

Over delicious Doughnut Plant doughnuts and piping hot coffee, we discussed a multitude of topics ranging in level of difficulty so everyone could actively participate in the discussion. All attendees were receptive to assisting their fellow poddies and answering all questions that were posed.

Prior to the meet-up, I had a lesson plan prepared in order to better facilitate the session. I’m pleased to report that it sat snugly in its folder the entire length of the evening! All were eager to share their thoughts and experiences with the rest of the group- and many a frenzied note was taken whenever a word was said that someone wasn’t familiar with.

The overall atmosphere was positive, cheerful and most importantly- incredibly generous. Everyone was easy-going and readily willing to participate in discussions as well as ask questions and answer questions their peers presented. The extraordinary amount of patience as well as lack of judgment made it not just a productive experience, but an enjoyable one.

All C-Poddies in the area are cordially invited to our next meet-up (we’ll keep you posted on time and location)! It’s a wonderful way to apply one’s knowledge of Chinese in a tangible as well as practical situation, as well as glean some new information from others in the C-Pod community. I had an incredible time facilitating this last event and I can’t wait to meet some more of The Big Apple’s most avid Chinese enthusiasts!
