July 6, 2017 at 8:31 AM没准儿 is used to guess for a unknown thing and most common to predict something.
Such as, 他没准儿能成功。
In your example, you could say:
这房子没准儿是个凶宅。

July 3, 2017 at 3:02 PM"认识 a person" is really acquainted with someone or at least have met once and talked in person before. But it depends on one's personality sometimes.
I would not say 我认识蔡英文。(Taiwanese president) even though I've shook hand with her once but some people might brag about it and say 我认识蔡英文。

July 3, 2017 at 2:53 PM谅解 is used when someone is taken for being guilty since 谅 means to forgive.
Parents feel guilty to leave their kids after divorce. They might say 我不期望孩子长大能谅解我。(I don't expect my children to understand the situation and forgive me when they grow up.)

July 3, 2017 at 2:46 PMInteresting! Thanks to @rogerblayney, I just realized how arrogant I have been when I say "I know" in English. "I see" is what I have always wanted to say.
I agree with @Mingmao. 我知道 is a very subtle way to show I already knew.
我知道了 is obvious enough for "I know now." or "I see" since it has the 了 at the end, signifying the change of the state, from unknown to known. Of course, you can make it stronger to make sure this message is sent by saying "我已经知道了。“
When someone say "他已经一个星期没来上班了!"
If you knew, you could say “我知道(啊)!他生病了。” (I knew. He is sick.)
If you didn't know, you might say“我知道了,我会打电话关心他一下。” (I see. I will call him and show my consideration.)

July 3, 2017 at 2:28 PMThey are both departments under a bigger unit.
单位 could be an independent organization/ institution but 部门 is certainly not so when people want to be vague they opt to 单位.
你是那个单位的? is generally "who do you work for?"If this sentence appeared in conversations between two strangers on a street 单位 could be what company/ organization. 部门 is not applicable here.If this sentence appeared in conversations between two strangers in a company building it means "what department do you work for?" You can use either one in this case.
When people say 主办单位(whichever units that host the events)、研究单位(whichever units that do research) they mean both independent units or departments under other units.
Hope this would be helpful.

July 3, 2017 at 1:40 PM告诉 doesn’t have the “make” meaning like 让、叫. 告诉 is followed by some information.
- 他告诉我他受伤了,不能来上班。 tā gàosù wǒ tā shòushāng le , bùnéng lái shàngbān. He told me he is injured and can’t come to work,
让、叫 mean “make somebody to do something” so they’re followed by action.
- 医生让我不要去上班。yīshēng ràngwǒ búyào qù shàngbānThe doctor told me not to go to work.

July 3, 2017 at 1:23 PMIn the usage of "make/ask someone to do something," the 让 and 叫 are very close but 叫 is a slightly stronger and less polite command than 让.
Also, when using 叫 the focus is more on the person while 让 focuses more on the action.
For example, when you say"我妈叫我回家吃饭。 " You mean my mom is being bossy and wants me to go home.
When you say "我妈让我回家吃饭。" You mean I can't have meal with you. Got to go home.
In this case, using 叫 is not rude since it's more like murmuring to himself. Using 要 would have make it sound like the doctor strongly wants him to do that.
我女友要我向他道歉。My girlfriend requested me to apologize to her.

June 6, 2017 at 1:54 PMFiona is referring to the texts in the book we would use 行(háng) in this situation but when talking about the second row of seats in the classroom we would say 排pái more often.
請看課文第二行。qǐngkàn kèwén dìèrháng
第二排第一個學生,請你說說你的想法。dìèrpái dìyīge xuéshēng, qǐngnǐ shuōshuō nǐde xiǎngfǎ.

July 6, 2017 at 9:00 AMHere is a lesson about the difference between the two words.
Put simply,
理解 is to understand feeling, things about heart.
了解 is to understand a person, or a fact.
