May 21, 2007 at 2:22 PM这是真故事... 几年前，当我半夜在路上开车的时候，我看到一个光光的圆球在天上慢慢飞。它发出很奇怪的绿色灯光，但是一点声音都没有。我以为真的是飞碟，所以马上加快追它。可是我的汽车不能比飞碟跑，追了十五分钟就不见了。 没想到，几天后，我又遇到这个 "飞碟"。此次是白天，所以我能看清楚了它是设么。原来是个新啤酒广告气球。

May 15, 2007 at 1:31 PMI spotted this just now after reading through the dialog several times. The passenger said "我肯定要迟到了" to mean "I'm definitely going to be late". But the way I read it, I reckon it means "I definitely want to be late". (which doesn't make sense) So, why isn't the dialog written as "我肯定会迟到了" or simply just "我肯定迟到了" ?

May 15, 2007 at 9:22 AMThanks Jenny for that very useful clarification of 的 and 地. This has turned out to be the most useful lesson for me thus far. Now, I just have to remember when to pronounce 地 as "de" instead of "di".
