hmm:) @ Jenny, this way biology will become memorizing, as it became to me at school, as well as chemistry - absolutely useless pile of memorization we had to do. No experiments, no experience - I see nothing traumatic in cutting up a frog and no reason for fainiting, as an example close to life what will you do if your friend will get an open fracture of a leg for example....faint?

Well, all 5 stars for CPod:)) After finishing listening I would say listening for me is way easier than reading:)) and writing. I had a great deal of laugh listening to the video material! Btw how do you download from youku? I can do it from youtube, any native Chinese ways for youku?

I truly enjoyed the lesson (video+written+pdf in both traditional and simplified + comment + audio: this is a master planning) even if it was not too challenging for me, but it was a great revision of my understanding of northern accent and a bit wicked Chinese and a great reminder about how diverse is Chinese language (I belong to the group of people who find written Chinese hard and spoken very easy, after 3,5 years in South of China, almost any accent becomes comprehensible, you need to have a very good listening comprehension skills here). 

The articles in English from pearltowerpete, I will have to read that long one in steps, changye, not only for you it's long;) changye, thx for that Chinese article too:)) getting to it soon.

To the humor...hard to say, funny situationally if funny at all who knows, depends on your values. I guess every country has some kind of similar show. In Russia It's "New Russian Women" performed by two male artists dressed in an old ladie's clothes. I don't find it funny, rather controversial, similarly as Chinese find cross-talk. How about your country?

I have a question, on youku there is a comment left:

简直就是俗不可耐， 卑鄙无耻， 我的孩子，哪一年都会学赵本山的无聊笑语， 骗人，忽悠人还说是和赵本山学的，，，我不明白为什么他这种人年年上春晚，中国人就这素质吗？

upto this moment I understand, but I can't figure out this part below...I know the characters, but can't get the meaning. Anybody can help me understand the parts in bold print: 

"有的人还给他捧的不得了， 我靠，什么东西，去美国第一次就被告了，告他歧视残疾人，可是他在国内混了这么多年，怎么没有人告他呢， 文化、素质有很大关系，因为中国大部分地区文化还很落后，国人的悲哀啊， 完了，今年又流行了一句： 我感谢你 《八辈祖宗》 不管你喜不喜欢，人家把钱骗到手了，可在美国，定价好几百的票最后不得不几十元处理了， 看看，这就是国民素质。。。。。。。。"

I started listening to material, and probably will make a break in a moment, due to some things to do. by now, some how of the video, it's not to hard to understand around 85-95%, though the end "r" was suddenly a shock, to a person, who has lived 3,5 years in the south of China already. I can't wait to finish, well working time!

I have a question...I happened to attend a poetry gathering not so long time ago and all Chinese poems were read in very peaceful and even pace, there was almost no raise nor fall in the intonation of the readers. In this podcast I hear quite emotional performance. chinese classmates an friends commented to me, that a poem in chinese should be read flat. So how it is? anybody can help?

I had to take some time off the forum:)

It seems to be mutual, I envy your knowledge of characters and skill to use Japanese (my Japanese friend tried her best to explain me the basics, but really...even Nepali based on Sanskrit was easier to comprehend in the basics) . To me, each language has it's unique beauty:) and being able to explore another one is a great adventure:) Good luck in learning other languages:)

To the Greek and Latin origins, I guess  unfortunately the best way is to speak quite a bit of European languages, when you speak quite a few of them you get the words derivations in a split second (my little set contains Russian, Polish, English, basics of French, Italian, Latin, German and Latin) in this way I just compare words and sounds and when I open the dictionary to consult, I am right in 8/10 cases. For me Latin is learnable only through reading, if you use iTunes, youu might like to - the check out: LATINUM - the online language course from London, a free podcast:) And thx once more for all the input:)
