January 22, 2008 at 10:52 PMI have a question about pronouncing words like 不用 (bùyòng), where the pinyin ends in "ng". I've noticed this in a number of lessons...it seems that the "g" is not pronounced. Is this a general rule, or more dialect-specific? I've checked the Pinyin & Pronounciation Charts, and it seems like the "g" is pronounced in those mp3's. Thanks! Brent

January 2, 2008 at 12:21 AMRJBerki, it sounds like you'd like beignets. They sprinkle powdered sugar on them...that's probably the main difference between them and yóutiáo. Hmmmm, who knew Jimmy Buffett did a song about beignets?!

December 27, 2007 at 6:51 PMJenny's knowledge never ceases to amaze me! The fact that she knows about beignets from New Orleans is pretty impressive (most Americans don't even know what they are). Ahhhh, sitting outside Cafe du Monde with a plate of beignets sounds so nice right about now!
