Hi eupnea63355

It's OK to send a watch (表, biao3) as its sound "biao" doesn't carry any ominous meaning.

Hi ellen 老师,

因为当代女人对男人的要求蛮高,送女友杯子也应该讲究牌子。送上和田玉杯或爱马仕(Hermes)茶杯一套才有意义!

Hi bodawei

In China, pupils/students are usually required to write with a fiber tip pen (or ballpoint pen) in an exam, but not with a pencil, which can prevent teachers from doctoring exam papers/answer sheets. Necessity is the mother of invention. Chinese are very clever.

Hi simon

The "" is something like "which" in English, that is to say, 你说的 (the things which you said). Of course you can also say 你说的 (the things you said) without using 所 (which). Adding 所 makes a sentence sounds more formal. I guess the same is true for "which". 中国面临(着)的一个大问题 is correct Chinese.

谁相信“即兴演讲”这个词?演讲稿到底是谁写的?我最讨厌这种“出口成章”的小孩儿,他的口音听起来真的很恶心。我想这个小聪明的孩子将来肯定会成为一个忠诚的共青团员。

Hi rb1956

You're right. RMB (人民币) is the name of Chinese currency. Interestingly, in Chinese you can find a lot of examples such as 三万人民币 and 十亿人民币 used on the Chinese internet. Probably some guys just can't stand "元人民币" because it's a little too long, hehe.

Below is an interesting example, the title of a news article, where both "亿人民币" and "亿元" are used in one sentence.

60亿人民币国债在港成功发行,申购金额高达180亿元

http://news.xinhuanet.com/gangao/2009-10/20/content_12282644.htm

In this case, you need to add "人民币" in order to clearly show it's mainland 元, but not Hong Kong dollar "港元".
