changye, 麻烦你给解释，你用的成语 “一衣带水” 是什么意思？我查过成语词典，问题是我的那本词典是用中文来解释，还有用的词汇太正式了，我没办法看的懂！ Also, anyone, what is a casual way to ask someone for help in this case? I mean, "麻烦你给解释" sounds a bit formal, and feels a bit stuffy to me...

不知道多少同学们对政治、历史感兴趣，我自己觉得很有意思。我很想听一些关于中国的最有名的领导的课; 那样的课程对外国人一定有用。比如说，一节关于邓小平的课可以包括他有名的说法、他的看法，一些被他设立的政策，什么的。 This seems a rather ignorant question to be asking at this point, but what are the characters for “Chinese pod” ?! Is it 中文伯课？

我学校的两个老师都认为如果一个人还没达到小康阶级，那个人连精神财富的意识也没有。这两个老师认为穷人都忙着谋生、追求温饱，没办法去追求知识、智慧。你们觉得呢？

I did some research, and, actually, the word "potluck" did not come from the word "potlatch”, that turns out to be just a common misconception (which I was taught in elementary school!). Also, to clarify, the ancient potlatch ceremony was a giving away of lavish gifts to gain face and show off wealth, not just a fancy meal. Sorry for posting misinformation!

谢谢你给我们的 连结，connie老师！ 那个故事让我想起来古代的美国，那时候的文化报跨这个习惯：有钱的人会请人去吃一顿饭，可是目标是让人知道自己是多么有钱的。那样的筵席那时代的人教potlatch； 我们现代的美国人改成这个词到potluck ,现在这个词代表每个人都带来一盘菜、一起分享吃的顿饭。

课文里面有一个人担心现代的孩子的攀比的习惯。是事实，每时代都有不同的社会问题。以前的父母最怕孩子的肚子饿；现代的父母最担心孩子受到的教育的质量。 我上哲学课和教育方法课的时候，老师们很喜欢提起这个问题 ： 哪个更重要：受到一个有智慧人的 教育，结果没有攀比的习惯、有层次、有内涵、不骄傲；或者得到一个小康的生活？哪个更重要，教育或者舒服？
