Posted on: Godzilla in Shanghai
September 21, 2007 at 4:09 AMGodzilla is under contract by The Mori Company from Japan (builder of the New International Trade Center in Pudong) to assist with Shanghai Urban Redevelopment by knocking down all the old buildings. btw I never saw Godzilla eat anyone in his movies. I am in Tokyo, so during lunch I brought this up and we think Godzilla might have been a vegetarian. In the final movie they were able to get him out of the city by leaving a trail of fish. There is also a statue of Godzilla in Ginza in Tokyo.

September 20, 2007 at 12:10 PMJenny So you must have been very good at writing a fictional diary for your mom's reading. I am beginning to wonder if perhaps our Jenny also gives us a fictional account of her life. Could it be that the real Jenny drinks with the best of the boys at the CPod Factory and is a star at karoake? Bazza its up to you to get the real story on our Jenny.

September 19, 2007 at 7:06 AMchangye and greggygate Wouldn't it be worse to be alone and have no beer ? Many years ago this would happen to me when I was traveling in Salt Lake City in the USA. The majority of the people in SLC are Mormon and do not drink. Before the Winter Olympics were held there finding alcohol was very difficult.

September 19, 2007 at 3:42 AMOk John and Amber You opened it up. Regarding Amber's two sentences to Rash and the examples in the Grammar Guide, I am confused when or how do you know to just use 除了 vs 除了..... 以外 ?

September 18, 2007 at 11:45 PMCPod Team I hope you all came through the Typhoon ok. When I lived in Taiwan, some of the companies would suggest the safest place was in the factory. No overtime of course. Mike

September 18, 2007 at 4:52 AMCPod Team, I have always wondered what women see in us guys. Thank God they see something promising and take us on as projects. I am sorry in my new job I can not listen during the day, so perhaps you covered this during the explanation. The sentence from the dialogue : 不過李燕好像很喜歡他,每天都和他一起吃飯、看書。 The "和" refers to - she and he together- Yes? So what they do together from a grammar point of view you can string things on forever ? for example .......... 吃飯、看書,閑話 , 講笑話 ..... eat, study, gossip, tell jokes......without an "和 - and" before the last one? Also I can't make reverse commas so I know I shold do that as well. Mike still in Tokyo

September 17, 2007 at 9:59 AMAmber I love Qing Wen and will search high and low for it. Today's was great as it explored many different ways to use '会' And Amber, thank you for listing all the expressions used. I have a special notebook just for Qing Wen and others I add. So yours are a great start each week. Hey Bazza! I think you are just looking for even more special attention when you go to Shanghai from all the CPod lovely women. Just remember, we don't want any geek type report from you about your time with John and David. Mike

August 28, 2007 at 5:33 AMjohnb Yea I like that better. Of course purely for theoretical use. Since my wife is not Chinese nor learning (yet) she gets angry when I do speak to her in Chinese.

August 27, 2007 at 8:29 AMThanks Amber That sounds nasty 好吧,不说算了。 Hǎo ba, bù shuō suànle. If she were Chinese would this be the next step in one of those dramas played out on the streets of Shanghai all the time ? Are you just taking the female side in this since in the end we guys always end up saying, were sorry and have to do something nice to make up for some unknown embarrassment to her that we have committed. Mike

September 21, 2007 at 4:35 AMIf Godzilla isn't enough you should go to the Expansion Section, the sentences include, grandpa's death, smuggling, car accidents, inflation, typhoons, ecological disasters, ruined plans...... Who had a bad day in the academic team? On a brighter note my daughter who just graduated from Law School and is now the AAG in Saipan had to sit in on her first autopsy. Naturally they waited until they had a body that washed up on shore after two weeks at sea and undiscovered on a beach rotting. As soon as they opened the body, she rushed out and puked. Of course they all had a big laugh. Today a volcano erupted ! Stuff does happen!
