Check at the upper right of the exercise. It should give you a choice of simplified, traditional or pinyin. If pinyin is selected, your answers should be correct.

although in Chinese it perhaps sounds silly:
red blood cells have blood red protein (i.e. hemoglobin).
and proteins are called egg white substances (蛋白质) in Chinese.

Thanks for your explanations. Context is always important when the sentences are contracted.
One thing I overlooked is that
(x) 一起吃
should probably always refer to the "eaters" not the "things eaten"

Or does it refer to the apples and honey? If not, how does one emphasize that the apples and honey are eaten together?

It is 啦 "la" that is a contraction of 了 and 呀。(I think that is the correct ya).
咯 it seems it just another way to say 了, with special emphasis, as user lzxmshuai indicated above.

September 10, 2009 at 10:37 PMI think the pinyin for 么 is definitely "me", but perhaps it was not on the chart because it is only used as a suffix.
As for 咯 "lo" it was discussed in a Qingwen (May 2008-Connie,Clay & Amber). I seem to remember that it was a contraction of 2 sounds.

Also, in the Pinyin Chart the first tone xu sounds like a first tone qu, to me.

I enjoyed this domestic lesson. I am not familiar with this phrase from the expansion: 吃光了
Very minor comments: In the dialogue 哎，你怎么搞的。
should probably have a question mark.
In the expansion, the rollovers of some words are not defined:
掉 diào, 碎 suì, 玻璃 bōli, 镜片 jìngpiàn, 撞坏 zhuànghuài
怎么了 lacks a rollover
小朋友 is given the literal translation of little friend, rather than of children.

Don't the new exercises give the solutions after clicking the "submit answers" button?
I too have experienced that frustration when I couldn't figure out if I lacked a space, or had an extra one!
