One of the expansion sentences says: 我们明天要早点儿起床。The translation says, "Let's get up a bit early tomorrow."

So, can 要 yào mean "Let's" too?

Anyone else a bit puzzled by the dailogue, where the foreigner was addressed by a stranger as 帅哥 shuàige, given that China seems to value reserve? Does this phrase not sound as forward in 中文 zhōngwén as it in English?

I love that Cpod keeps things fun and not too serious. Just confirming that it was intended to sound cheesy.

Also, Dilu, help me understand your comment, that guys sometimes refer to other guys as 帅哥. Just a bit unclear.

Thank you as always, Dilu and John, for your excellent teaching!

That makes sense. Interesting. Thanks for the explanation.

Interesting show, and a bit of a cliffhanger. Sign me up to test drive the new progress tracker. I'd be glad to help in any way.

Great QW!

After listening to the audio for the example sentences on the lesson page, I couldn't help asking, should the example sentence below be written with the "pirate-ification" 儿 (er) on the last word 事儿?

 有人告诉奇怪

(Someone told me a really strange story.)

Thanks,

Yes, click on the cog (gear thing) at the top right of any lesson page. There you can make the traditional characters the main ones. You can switch back and forth between tradition and simplified whenever you wish. : )

Brent23421,

Yes. It took a while for me, but I finally did get anki configured to display flash cards with English, pinyin, and 汉字[hànzi]. Alas, I don't recall the exact steps, but you can get them at the website. Search the help section for "Chinese" and it should come up. Good luck!

@bill - That is excellent you are able to understand enough from the context that English is often not needed. I think this is a sign of an intermediate/ advanced level learner. A very enviable position to be in. Alas, I have a ways to go still...

@catherinem - Yes, after studying a lesson I save all of the vocabulary and expansion vocabulary and sync them with the ipod app to review. For me, it helps to get as much exposure to the vocabulary as possible. The app shows how many total flash cards are synced, and it is fun to see that number grow!

Yesterday after reading a different post, I found and installed anki on my computer, and will use it as well. All these resources help, and I need all the help possible : )
