Burger King has launched a faux-meat alternative to their signature burger, the Whopper. The “Impossible Whopper” features a patty made from plants-based ingredients, including the heme, which gives the patty the look and texture of meat. The market for meat replacements is growing with public concern over the environmental hazards of meat production.

根据路透社的报导,汉堡王的北美总裁费南佐表示:「基本上没有人可以分辨」仿肉和一般肉饼汉堡的差别。

该大型连锁快餐企业在愚人节当天开卖「不思议皇堡」。

Burger King has begun offering a Whopper with a plant-based patty.

As reported by Reuters, Christopher Finazzo, Burger King’s president for North America, said that “virtually nobody can tell the difference” between the meatless product and the original.

Burger King proudly launched the Impossible Whopper on April Fool’s Day.

Impossible Whopper patties are manufactured by Impossible Foods.

The California-based company uses genetically modified yeast to produce heme, an iron-rich protein, from soybean roots.

Impossible claims that heme gives their product the texture and taste of meat.

The market for meat alternatives is growing with public concern over the environmental hazards of meat production.

Industrial ranching is a major contributor to climate change.

Finazzo said that most Impossible Whopper fans among Burger King clientele like the product because of its nutritional profile.

The Impossible Whopper has 90 percent less cholesterol and the same amount of protein as a regular Whopper.

According to company research, customers are willing to pay extra for the new burger, which costs about 1 dollar more than the beef-based original.
