August 20, 2011 at 4:15 AMSadly, my on-line dictionary of choice -- the Google Chinese-English dictionary -- no longer exists. (It was not the same as Google Translate.)

August 20, 2011 at 4:13 AMI see where you're coming from. My thought is that "to waste" is misleading because it's transitive, which might lead someone to say something like 打水漂钱.

August 19, 2011 at 6:25 AMBut, "to waste" will never be correct, as it must have an object.

August 19, 2011 at 5:48 AMI don't think translating "打水漂" as "to waste" is correct; "to waste" requires a object, while "打水漂" is a verb-object phrase -- "to waste" is verb and "打水漂" is a comment (look at the sentences in the expansion area; they're all topic-comment constructions (correct?)). I would translate "打水漂" as "be wasted" (not in the being drunk sense) or something like that.

August 16, 2011 at 12:38 PM很好大家关心这次文化资产的毁损,但是保存遗址也很重要,我们对历史的很多知识是从挖掘和分析遗址而来的,遗址亡失不存了,我们就会损师它里面所有的痕迹。

October 22, 2008 at 12:03 PM謝謝changye.

October 4, 2008 at 11:46 PMThanks changye,
My coworker said 擧一個例子 and thought she said 取一個例子. Thanks for the correction -- sometimes it's difficult to know when you're wrong.
I like your examples; I'll put them to use :)
