Doesn't 需要 have a hint of "want," as well?

This lesson is an improvement over past media lessons:

(1) A reading of the text was included in the lesson.

(2) The person who read the article was not the same person who does the expansion exercises and was not one of the lesson hosts. (I would still like to see different people reading the sentences in the expansion section.)

Thanks!

Most of the words in the dialects can be written with characters, but each dialect will be written in a very different way -- see the Cantonese writing system for an example. Saying that the Mandarin writing system correlates with the other dialects is not accurate.

南方方言保留古代漢語的聲調系統? 南方方言有收輔音韻尾(-p, -t, -k), 但-p,-t,-k不是聲調, 它們只是跟入聲對應. (因為漢語聲調的產生和發展跟韻尾有關) 現代南方方言的聲調系統其實跟上古音很不一樣:最多上古音有三個聲調: 平, 上 , 去入(去入還沒分開), 則南方方言一般有7-9個聲調.

Native Mandarin speakers have a problem with this sometimes. I was in a class and the teacher has a heavy Min accent; at one point he wrote some words on the board and the class had a "that's what he was saying" moment. (I'm not a native speaker, but everyone else was.) So don't feel too bad, but you should be learning Southern Min; it's not that bad -- just keep your learning based in conversation.

I've found the words CP teaches are still high frequency even in the media lessons: I opened the paper yesterday and one of the first characters I read was 湧. This kind of thing happens all the time. TY CP :) My only recommendation is that different voices are used in expansion sections and what not; preferably at least 3-4 different people for each lesson. Hearing the same voice/tone over and over day after day starts to become unbearable -- like avariant of Chinese watertorture. Please change this. It shouldn't be that hard and it will make using CP a much better experience. (Not to say the voice is bad sounding; it's just super consistent and sounds unnatural -- in normal conversation tone of voice is neverconsistent like that. I actually think CP uses a computer program for the audio in theexample sentences. And that would explain why the voice never changes.)

I like how different speakers read the first three examples of the grammer section. I would like to see more of this. Thanks!
