I think you have the final answer to this thread.

One cultural undertone: If you are a foreigner and come to China for an extended stay, but were born without a sense of humor, you will never make it home alive.

If you don't understand what I mean, you have never been to China before.

I have explained the difference to students many times between the "Mandarin orange" (tangerine) and the bigger oft-called "Orange." A lot of my students have found it funny that we call the little 橘子 mandarin oranges, and they were surprised when I told them that I would not ever refer to the little ones simply as oranges. (Though I usu. call them tangerines, I think mandarin oranges is easier for my students to remember, and more interesting because of the China reference).

Now that I think about it, this discussion usually comes up when someone asks me what is the word for 橙子, and then they are surprised when I tell them that we call it "orange," because most of their text books say that 橘子 is orange.

I have a question

Is this the same "落伍" I often hear when I tell 外地人 that I live in Anhui Province? I have been trying to figure out this word for a while now, and I always had the impression that the meaning was "poor" or "underdeveloped。"

"我本来这个酒吧的"  在这个句子里“的”有什么用?强调什么?

“柜子里不错,不过你得脱掉鞋子。”

我觉得这个句子很有中国特色。:)

我自己觉得这个课程特别有用。如果你去图书馆找这种的信息,你就会找不到!这个“请问”肯定是正宗的。这是为什么我以后会花钱用chinesepod学习。

That picture of the train is brilliant. Reminds me of a bunch of ants swarming a dropped piece of candy on the ground.
